Operation P.E.A.C.E. is a
nonprofit offering an outstanding opportunity for students
to gain “real world,” hands-on development and
grantwriting experience. The Development Intern will become
a key player in our organization’s sustainability
and long-term success. The Development Intern will work
directly with the Executive Director to identify potential
foundations and other funding institutions to support our
vital community arts and technology programs. Our programs
include an afterschool program for children from ages 5-13
years old, ESL, and Arts and technology programs, including
media literacy and multimedia programs for youth, seniors,
linguistically-diverse speakers and disadvantaged communities.
The Development intern will prepare reports for foundations
and potential sponsors, and develop grant proposals and
follow up with phone calls to insure the requirements of
grant applications are met with high standards. While the
internship is 75% grantwriting and research, there will
also be a percentage of administrative duties, such as filings,
donor mailings, and pitching in to help with other administrative
duties as needed.
Interns will gain:
• Valuable experience in the field of non-profit fundraising
development, increased knowledge of non-profit sector.
• Grantwriting and editing skills marketable to all
non-profits
• Potentially successful grants/Letters of Inquiry
to add to a resume or professional grant writer’s
portfolio
• An improved sense of the services available to the
children, youth, and the linguistically-diverse population
we serve
• Opportunities to practice Spanish and Russian.
• Gain basic webdesign for updating our events web
pages for WebPages to attract potential donors and funders.
• Have an excellent employment reference for your
work with Operation P.E.A.C.E.
Qualifications:
• Excellent writing and editing skills, and organizational
skills.
• Able to juggle multiple tasks at once, and able
to work under pressure
• Good computer skills; skilled in using internet
and/or library resources for research
• Able to solve problems with limited direction, work
independently and take initiative; flexible in adapting
to needs of development office
• Interested in issues affecting children, disadvantaged
communities, ESL learner issues, and the elderly.
• Bilingual English-Spanish, English-Russian a plus,
but not required
