Operation
P.E.A.C.E. is reviewing applications for new Board of Directors
to help us ensure long term sustainability of our vital
our community programs.
Job Description
and Purpose
To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist
with the leadership and general promotion of Operation P.E.A.C.E.
so as to support the organization’s mission and needs.
Our Mission
The Fenway community is both vibrant and diverse. Our mission
is to empower disadvantaged low-income families in the Fenway
area of Boston. Our free community programs support at-risk
youth, unemployed teenagers and adults, linguistically-diverse
speakers, and senior citizens. We empower Fenway residents
to become self-sufficient by developing literacy, vocational,
and social skills as responsible adults. We offer arts,
technology, and education programs that help youth develop
social skills, improve academic achievement, and learn the
importance of teamwork and community contribution. Our youth
programs focus on building study skills, computer training,
mentoring, and leadership development. We offer ESL classes
for linguistically-diverse speakers in our community. We
also provide enrichment programs for adults, including senior
citizens so they remain a vital part of our community.
Major responsibilities
• Organizational leadership and advisement
• Organization of the board of directors, officers,
and committees
• Formulation and oversight of policies and procedures
• Financial management, including oversight of the
annual budget
• Oversight of program planning and evaluation
• Personnel evaluation and staff development
• Review of organizational and programmatic reports
• Promotion of the organization
• Fundraising and outreach
Members of the board share these responsibilities while
acting in the interest of Operation P.E.A.C.E.). Each member
is expected to make recommendations based on his or her
experience and vantage point in the community.
Length of term
Three years, which may be renewed up to a maximum of three
consecutive terms, pending approval of the board.
Meetings and time commitment
• The board of directors meets 6 times per year on
the first Monday night of the month at 6:00PM, at Operation
P.E.A.C.E. located at 78 Peterborough Street. Meetings typically
last under 90 minutes.
• Committees of the board meet an average of four
times per year, pending their respective work agenda.
Expectations of board members
• Attend meetings on a regular basis, and special
events as able.
• Participate on a standing committee of the board,
and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary.
• Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed
by Operation P.E.A.C.E.'s mission, objectives, and programs.
• Help promote P.E.A.C.E.'s mission and programs to
the community.
• Become familiar with P.E.A.C.E.'s mission, finances,
budget, and financial/resource needs.
• Understand the policies and procedures of P.E.A.C.E..
• Financially support P.E.A.C.E's mission in a manner
commensurate with one’s ability.
