PROGRAMS

YOUTH CENTER

The Operation P.E.A.C.E. Youth Center runs an After School program each academic calendar year and a Youth Summer Academy during July and August; both programs provide area youth with caring supervision and educational support. The Youth Center's programs place a strong emphasis on literacy, math, computer technology, communication, and the arts. The After School and Summer Academy implement our core values: teamwork, respect, responsibility, and effective communication. Visit the Youth Center page to learn more.

COMMUNITY COMPUTER OPEN ACCESS

Our Open Access multimedia computer lab is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 2pm. Open access hours offer something for everyone, whether it's students researching on the Internet, Russian and Spanish speakers using computer programs to improve their English skills, unemployed parents contacting prospective employers, or senior citizens opening email accounts for the first time. We offer free computer training programs to Hispanic and Russian communities in their native languages. Spanish and Russian speakers attend our computer training programs to improve their English skills and explore career opportunities.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

"I wish I could come to this class every week forever," said Milya Geller, a Russian immigrant and participant in our most recent Intermediate ESL Class (see video). At Operation P.E.A.C.E. our wish is the same as Milya's. Our ESL classes provide hands-on, practical English language training for Russian and Spanish speaking individuals. We offer both introductory and intermediate course levels. [New courses are pending enrollment.]

SENIOR PROGRAMS

Many of the seniors in our community are unfamiliar with a computer. We bridge the technology gap by providing seniors with specialized, one-on-one computer training, allowing them to learn at their own pace. Seniors learn how to use a mouse, keyboard, and create documents in Microsoft Word before advancing to the Internet and communicating via email. We also collaborate with the Peterborough Senior Center to offer a recreational and cultural enrichment program to create an active community of seniors in the Fenway.

P.E.A.C.E. ART GALLERY

Our P.E.A.C.E. Art Gallery offers aspiring artists of any age the opportunity to exhibit their art on P.E.A.C.E. walls (see video). We share our facilities with local artists who hold art receptions and social events that enrich our community and further artistic and cultural awareness. For exhibition inquiries, contact Carlo Light-Lookner via email: carlo@operationpeaceboston.org.
