 OPERATION P.E.A.C.E OPEN HOUSE

Our Codman Square Learning Center hosted a community open house March 8th. We welcomed over 30 people to the space, sharing amazing food and vision for our community. Operation P.E.A.C.E. is excited to continue to work WITH our neighbors in operating a space that is a true resource. Please join us during drop-in time, 12-6 PM on Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays, to learn more about our programming and to share your ideas!

And a very special thank you to Hope from Taste of Eden, a local legend and friend of Operation P.E.A.C.E., for her donation of food for our event. For a delicious meal, visit her at 38 Norfolk Street in Dorchester.

On August 28, 2021, Operation P.E.A.C.E. and local non-profit ARCK (Art Resource Collaborative for Kids) came together to host Together Through Art, a free Public Art Walk & Festival in Fenway!

Approximately 200 community members engaged with a public art tour, in-person and through a curated mobile app, from Ruggles MBTA station to Fenway Park. The final stop was a community celebration and festival, the highlight of which was an interactive art-making activity.

Alongside Boston-based artists Rebecca McGee Tuck (fiber artist) and Jamaal Eversley (abstract artist), attendees decorated fabric leaves with art and inspirational messages of hope and encouragement to their community, such as “Your Joy is Meaningful to Humanity” and “Your Community is Your Greatest Asset!” These leaves now hang on a 9-foot-tall wooden tree sculpture painted by Eversley, which will rotate through local host sites around Boston.

Mayor Kim Janey visited the festival and spoke about the power of art and the role artists have played in helping us navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. She even decorated a leaf for the tree on behalf of the City of Boston!

This project was supported by a Transformative Public Art grant from the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and Fenway Beautification funds from the Boston Planning & Development Agency. In addition, we thank our generous event sponsors (Mass Cultural Council, WS Development, Sasaki, Fenway Health, Samuels & Associates, Boston Red Sox, Boston University) and In-Kind Supporters (Ben & Jerry’s, The Boston Guardian, hint water, Orange Barrel Media, and Sal’s Pizza).
